7 Foods To Avoid While Wearing Braces In Albuquerque

When you choose orthodontics in Albuquerque to straighten your or your kids’ smile, you may need to take a break from eating certain food to protect your investment. The last thing you want is to need to schedule an emergency appointment to fix damaged orthodontics.

But don’t panic … I won’t ask you to clear out your entire fridge and all your cupboards. Here’s a list of seven food items you should stay away from during your orthodontic treatment…

  • Crusty French breads
  • Bagels
  • Chips
  • Nuts
  • Popcorn
  • Pretzels
  • Candies (caramel, lollipops, gumballs, etc.)

My rule of thumb is if it’s crunchy, sticky, or chewy, stay away from it! Ice cubes also pose a risk.

Why can these food items be harmful to your braces? They can result in broken brackets or loose bands. I’ve seen it happen before.

… And if you have a habit of chewing on pens, pencils, or fingernails, you’ll need to do your best to stop.

You can eat fruits and veggies like … apples, carrots, celery, and corn, but they should be cut into small pieces first. Planning on eating meat? If it has a bone, make sure to cut off the meat.
