WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM DELTA DENTAL COVERAGE?

Every Delta Dental patient has the opportunity to choose specific coverage plans. Each of these plans represents a unique agreement between the patient and their insurer. In order to provide accurate estimates of the out of pocket treatment costs, our team will need to review your individual policy. However, most Delta Dental plans require patients to pay a monthly premium in exchange for coverage of a percentage of the cost of specific treatments.

WHAT TREATMENTS ARE COVERED BY DELTA DENTAL?

80 to 100% coverage for preventive dentistry services like dental checkups and teeth cleanings as well as necessary diagnostic x-rays

50 to 80% coverage for conservative restorative dentistry services like tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns, and tooth replacement solutions like bridges and dentures

25 to 75% coverage for orthodontics treatments when elected by the patient and/or their employer

Miscellaneous treatments like dental sedation and mouthguards also receive coverage under some policies

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE IN-NETWORK?

There are two main types of dental insurance policies – health maintenance organizations (HMO) and preferred provider organizations (PPO). HMO plans have inflexible restrictions on what providers are covered within their networks. PPO plans offer patients the flexibility to visit dentists who are in or out of their network. The difference is in the relationship your dentist has with the insurer. In-network providers have agreements to charge fees for their dental services that fit within a price range outlined by the insurer.
That means the insurance provider will pay the agreed upon percentage of treatment costs, and you will only be responsible for the out of pocket percentage of the price of your dental services. Out of network dentists can charge fees that are higher or lower than the insurer’s average pricing. If your dentist’s fees are higher, you will need to pay the difference in price in addition to your out of pocket percentage of the cost of dental care. In most cases, this difference in pricing is minimal, but visiting an in-network dentist ensures you won’t need to worry about any additional costs.

HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE MY DELTA DENTAL INSURANCE?

The easiest way to maximize your Delta Dental insurance coverage is to keep up with your regular checkups with our team. During these visits, we partner with patients to maintain their healthiest smiles, and we work hard to help patients prevent the most common oral health concerns before they begin. In addition to receiving the greatest percentage of dental insurance coverage, these regular appointments are also the best way to prevent the need for more advanced treatments that receive less coverage from your insurance plans.
