Dental Crown Costs
Porcelain dental crowns from our Albuquerque, NM, practice typically cost between $1,500 and $2,500.
The final price of your treatment can vary, but we accept several insurance plans and financing options to help you manage costs.
Take a closer look at some of the factors that affect the cost of this beneficial treatment.
How Much Do Dental Crowns Cost?
Materials
We only use porcelain or IPS e.max®, two top-quality materials, to craft our crowns. Porcelain and IPS e.max crowns are ultra-strong. They're designed to withstand the force of your bite and resist chipping. Lower-priced crown materials are opaque and tend to have an unnatural look, but our materials are translucent, meaning that your crowned tooth will completely blend in with the rest of your smile.
Optional Sedation
Crown placement is not typically uncomfortable thanks to the use of local anesthesia, which will be included as part of the cost of your procedure. However, some patients tend to feel especially anxious in a dental chair, and others may have trouble sitting for extended periods of time. Though it will add to the total cost of your treatment, we can provide effective oral conscious sedation or nitrous oxide to help you relax while receiving your dental crown. Just let us know if you need this accommodation to feel relaxed.
Preparatory Dentistry
Before you receive a dental crown, your dentist will perform a thorough examination to check the health of your teeth and gums. Some patients have cavities that need treatment before receiving a crown, and others may need a crown to protect a tooth after a root canal. Though these preparatory procedures will add to the cost of your crown treatment plan, dental insurance providers will cover at least part of the cost of medically necessary dental work.
Purpose of the Dental Crown
From cosmetic enhancement to the restoration or replacement of a tooth, crowns have many helpful applications in dentistry. However, the reason why they're being used can affect the price of treatment. For instance, a crown used to protect a tooth that has suffered structural damage will likely qualify for insurance coverage, but a crown used to mask dental staining or minor flaws will not. If you want to replace a tooth with a dental implant and crown instead of a dental bridge, insurance will cover the crown, but not the implant.
We will be able to determine a more accurate price for your dental crowns once we meet with you to discuss your unique needs.

That depends on whether your insurance provider considers your crown to be restorative or cosmetic. Restorative uses for crowns include replacing an old crown and repairing structural damage to a tooth. Cosmetic uses for crowns include masking dental discoloration and concealing small cracks or chips. While insurance does not cover cosmetic treatments, most insurance plans will help to cover the cost of a restorative crown.
