I do Botox a lot for TMJ patients who have headaches, and there's an additional cosmetic benefit. Botox has been used in medicine and dentistry for many years. It is very predictable and is an excellent tool for addressing cosmetic concerns that patients may have.
Many people can benefit from Botox, especially those with headaches. There is a specific Botox protocol for headaches, which involves where and how often we administer Botox, and the amount used. Patients often experience relief from their headaches for months. If Botox can help them get through periods of severe headaches and return to normal activities like work, it serves a valuable purpose.
New patients sometimes worry about whether Botox will hurt because they know it's an injection. However, the injections are very comfortable. We use a very small gauge needle, much smaller than what patients are typically used to.
